As the school year whirls to its conclusion, I would like to thank you all for the fun I have enjoyed this year, in working with you in Skills for living classes. I hope you have come out this end, feeling stronger, prouder and more confident in yourselves as individuals and gorgeous “human beans”. I found this video on Facebook this morning and thought it was a lovely sentiment on which to finish the year. Have a great, safe, fun filled holiday and we will see you all at the beginning of the 2012 school year.

End of Semester Reflection

May 31st, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

As with every end of semester report writing, you are required to reflect on your Learning during terms 1 and 2. The following template can be found on the Student R Drive on the network. Please copy and paste this work document into your own folders and respond to each of the 3 prompts. When you have completed this, save it back onto the Students R drive, in the relevant year level folder and name your document, with your first name.

When you are writing new goals – consider your:
RESILIENCE – sticking at tasks even when they become difficult
RESOURCEFULNESS – knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do
REFLECTIVENESS – being able to think and talk about what you have learnt and how you have learnt something
RECIPROCITY – working with and supporting others in their learning

When you are writing your student comment, write it in terms of:
What I did well – sticking at tasks even when they become difficult, knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do, being able to think and talk about what you have learnt and how you have learnt something, working with and supporting others in their learning.
What I could have done better – sticking at tasks even when they become difficult, knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do, being able to think and talk about what you have learnt and how you have learnt something, working with and supporting others in their learning.

My learning Goals (from the start of the year)

Student comment (about how well you have gone towards achieving these goals)

My Future learning goals (goals for the remainder of the year) These must be explicit. When you think about a satisfying year of reaching goals and being your best, what is it that is getting in the way? Your future learning goals should reflect these challenges and your plan to make positive improvements.

Welcome to Global Storytelling

Learning Intention of this project:
Students will learn about favourite books of students in Malaysia, China and Bulgaria. They will collaborate and share stories through using computer software and a shared wikispace.

Success criteria:
Students will use computer software, to produce a 1 -2 minute book trailer. This book trailer may include text, images, voice and music. Students will not use copyright material of any kind.

This project has come about through connections with the Melbourne Writers’ Festival in Melbourne, Australia. Students from a number of countries will
*Nominate their favourite author
*Share the title of their favourite book
*Design a book trailer to promote their favourite book
*Collaborate and interact culturally and globally

Schools involved will come from Australia, China, Malaysia and Bulgaria

Students can use any software they like, to produce a short trailer about their favourite book. This trailer should whet the appetite of young readers around the world, to read this book. The trailer should give just enough information to tease the reader and make them curious, without giving away the ending. The trailer should acknowledge the title and the author as well.

Your task this morning, is to visit the BTN site; select an international story from either last week or the archives, watch it, read about it and then write your own response. Your response must summarise the issues and include a comprehensive opinion piece from yourself. This entire task is to be completed in class time.

You must hyperlink the BTN site and any references and post this opinion piece on your own blogs.
